“Jehovah is Avant Garde, Jesus is Haute Couture,” was inspired by the titles the world gives to describe the highest most artistic forms of fashion, Avant Garde and Haute Couture. The French term Avant Garde derives from the traditional division of a medieval army into three battles, the first, the main and the rear. The first battle is referred to in French as the Avant Garde or Vanguard which is the English translation. The Avant Garde was responsible for preparing the battlefield for war, clearing away any debris or obstacles that would inhibit the army from fighting their best at war. Is this not true of what God does for us in times of peril? Deuteronomy 31:8 says, And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed. Today, the term Avant Garde is used to describe innovative, revolutionary and unprecedented fashion design.
The french term Haute Couture translation into English is high sewing or high dressmaking and refers to the design houses, quite often European that create exclusive and trend setting fashions. Is not God the ultimate couturier designer? Look how well the lord dresses the birds of the sky, robins, blue birds, parrots, humming birds, peacocks, swans, cockatoos and flamingos. Our God designed every one of these birds and meticulously placed each feather not only for artistic motives, but also for functionality of flight. There is no one more well dressed on this earth than the creatures he has created, just look at the cats of the wild, cheetahs, tigers and jaguars with their extravagant prints and other wild animals like zebras and giraffes with their extraordinary patterned coats. These prints are continually used in apparel season after season and never go out of fashion. Think of the fabrics we clothed ourselves in, cottons, linens, leathers, furs and silks all derive from the earth. Look at the way God has fashioned the beauty of the earth, there isn't a color imaginable that has not already been created in nature, from extravagant flowers to the colorful spectrums in rainbows.
